Here you can see what I added to Kim’s base. I did seam treatments on all the hills and added a patch of silk ribbon flowers.

Here is Ami’s landscape after my additions:

I added the fence, the sunflowers on the fence (Kim added the greenery under the fence), and the ruts in the road with some grass in the center of the ruts…The fence is a brown hand dye and is fused onto the base. The sunflowers are sequins, held on with several brownish gold beads…the ruts were done with Tsukeniko inks..the grass was done with embroidery floss.

Here are my contributions to Kim’s landscape..

All the dogwood blossoms are in place and little dark green silk ribbon leaves have been tucked into the branches:

I picked ’shiny’ materials to embellish the sun – to make it warm and glowing – the picture does not pick up the full effect..I used golden braid, clear, irridescent and yellow beads, golden rickrack, pale cream silk ribbon and a fancy cream braid with iridescent ribbon threaded thru it.

Well I think I am the problem child of this round robin! Working a full time job has not really helped me find time to work on my base. They have told me that they hope to give me my partime schedule by the end of the month that I signed on for. I did spend yesterday finishing this base up and am pretty pleased with the little composition that I have created. It will be heading off to Kim tommorow along with the quilt I have quilted for her (I will post that on my personal blog tommorw as it is late tonight). I have included a little booklet with my piece with some ideas of what I would like on it. The only think I really really want is the row of trees that is in the photo and the drawing which will also accompany the piece. I think the trees need to be added as the first element and today on the phone with Kim we discussed this. I am really looking forward to seeing how this little piece will grow and change as each of the rest of you work on it.

Now that this is in the mail I can devote me time and energy to Dee’s little desert landscape!

Dee’s Base

I thought I would post a photo of Dee’s base which I just got out of the box I brought it home in from the retreat. I have finally finished my own base which will be heading off to Kim tommorow so am now going to get cracking on Dee’s desert theme. First thing I want to do is begin to look at photos and get some ideas of what elements to add. There will be some cacti for sure along with at least one animal which might be a quail, roadrunner, rattlesnake or horned toad. I am going to do some research and determine which I can do best. I hope to have a new photo with some finished elements next week.

well, I have progressed to putting Kathi’s base on my sewing table, hoping to get some inspiration. I keep thinking of some coral, would also love to try some jelly fish. wouldn’t the trailing part be fun in some of the neat yarn available now. but guys, I literally have no supplies for this other than a collection of DMC embroidery floss. I gave Kathi all my “bits” as part of her SS gift. wonder if Joann’s will let me buy 3 inches of some tulle – lol. work is, well, busy but not terrible. I didn’t work at all this weekend though I probably should have. I put borders on the baby quilts I started at the retreat and cleaned. it was nice to not think about work.
hey Kathi, you said something about scale, can you give me an idea? I was thinking something like a clown fish would be maybe 3/4″ an inch, though fish in the distace would be smaller, a “large” coral plant would be maybe 3 – 4″, jelly fish the size of a quarter. let me know if I’m in the ball park – or the fish bowl – ha ha.

Kim's Base with Dogwood Blossoms

The felt ric-rac that I got two weekends ago on the Coastal Shop Hop is working out nicely for the dogwood blossoms..I was able to put a bunch of the dogwood blossoms on last Saturday at our Craft Day…need to do the other side of the tree..and it needs a few green leaves..each blossom is two sets of two ‘bumps’ of the ric-rac, with red Aquarelle crayon dabbed onto the white felt to make the pink color..then attached with crystal beads using lime green rayon thread…

Here is Suze’s base with 173 roses on it. It has been fun. Almost done with the roses and then I will decide what to add next.

I finished Ami’s block on the CQ round robin and finally started this one. I decided to put climbing roses going from the pot on the right up and around the columns. It is barely started, but decided to post a photo since we haven’t had much eye candy yet. Hope you like it so far Suze.

My home internet has been on the fritz so I forgot to post Friday. I have not gotten beyond the planning stages for Suze’s base, I am finishing Ami’s from the other round robin this week then will concentrate on this one.
